Taking the story from where it all started this year, the Academic Staff University Union began the industrial strike on 14th of February this year. It started with 1 month industrial strike which they tagged warning strike but owning to some reasons they extended the strike by 8 weeks which was supposed to expire by May 14 but extended by 12weeks, it was declared on the day they were supposed to meet and call off the strike.

The president of the Union and his team was invited to a Radio show by a radio presenter, Mr Ahmad Isha. Mr. Ahmad Isha disclosed that he had set up an account and he had called on some philanthropists for financial contribution. However, the contribution was to help in settling the difference between the Federal Government and the Union, ASUU.
It is quite unfortunate that the president of the Union Mr. Osedeke and his team rejected the sum of 50million (donated by Udom Emmanuel the incumbent governor of Akwa Ibum state) Nigeria money immediately it was displayed.
Why the offer was rejected
The president of the Union Mr. Osedeke said their displeasure in the donation was to give the FG enough time to resolve all the issues on ground.
Conclusion
The union in their actions and statements is not ready to call off the strike untill the FG have a common ground with them. Some people called in during the radio show, and made it known to the Union, ASUU how insensitive they are.
